To apply for NSFAS for the 2025-2026 academic year, you can use the online application portal 2025-2026 available at www.nsfas.org.za.

To apply for NSFAS 2025-2026 funding, you must complete and submit your application online. Ensure that your application is complete because NSFAS will not process incomplete applications. To complete your NSFAS Bursary Online Application for the 2025-2026 academic year, you will need to provide the following information:
- Your own cellphone number and email address
- A copy of your ID or birth certificate
- A copy of your parent’s, guardian’s, or spouse’s ID
- Proof of your income or IRP5 for the past year (if applicable)
- Proof of income from your parents, guardians, or spouse
- SASSA grant recipients are not required to provide proof of income
- Applicants with disabilities must complete and sign the Disability Annexure A Form
- Applicants recognized as vulnerable children by the Department of Social Development must submit a completed and signed Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent Form.
When are NSFAS Applications for 2026 opening?
To submit an application for NSFAS 2025, you need to visit the website www.nsfas.org.za during the period from 28 September 2024 to 2025. It’s important to note that NSFAS does not accept late applications for the 2024 academic year.

Here are the steps you need to follow to check NSFAS Application Status for 2024-25:
- Visit the NSFAS Status website at www.nsfas.org.za
- Log into your myNSFAS account, or create one if you do not already have one.
- Please enter your User ID
- Enter your password.
- You can check the status of your NSFAS 2025 application by clicking “Track Funding Progress”

The NSFAS application system for 2025 is expected to open from JANUARY to 2025, coinciding with the release of the National Senior Certificate results.
NSFAS Application Cycles
In addition to applying online or through walk-in assistive capture, students can also apply for the National Certificate Vocation (NC(v)) at the start of semester 1 and trimester 1 each year.
Walk-in assistive capture applications for the DHET calendar trimesters 2 and 3 are available in May and September.
You can submit a walk-in application for assistive capture during Semester 2, which runs from June to July.

You can apply through:

TVET Colleges’ NSFAS Requirements for 2026
The following conditions apply to the bursary scheme:
- Only South African citizens are eligible to apply.
- The student must be enrolled at a public TVET college in South Africa that offers PLP, NC(V), or Report 191 programs.
- NSFAS will evaluate the student’s financial need to determine eligibility for financial assistance.
- Upon returning to the college, students must demonstrate acceptable academic performance (i.e., be academically deserving) in accordance with the college’s progress policy or the Bursary Rules and Guidelines (whichever is higher).
- It is not recommended for candidates to enroll in a qualification that duplicates previous state-funded learning.
- The maximum family income threshold is R350,000 per annum, and applicants who are admitted or receive a firm offer for enrolment in a college are eligible.
