Fully Funded Harvard University 2026 Harvard South Africa Fellowship Program Scholarship detail The Apartheid system prevented South Africans from gaining access to higher education, so in 1979, President Derek Bok established the Harvard South Africa Fellowship Program (HSAFP) to help meet the needs of South Africans in that situation. This program was designed, and it continues to be aimed at, mid-career professionals in South Africa who have been held back educationally as a result of South Africa’s historical laws and resource allocations. Currently led by Drew Gilpin Faust, who holds the presidency of the HSAFP, ongoing efforts are being made to broaden the pool of candidates that can participate in the program by increasing the number of institutions and organizations in South Africa to which the HSAFP can extend its reach.
